Basic Needs:
College Students from the Foster Care System
Attending Jeremiah's Promise Workshops
While it is a relatively simple thing to show up at a college workshop once a month and deliver an
inspiring message that could lay the foundation of hope and transformation for a young person whose
childhood was wrought with pain, it is no easy thing to have that message received and acted upon if
the most basic of needs are not met for that young person.
We plan to meet the needs of the former foster youth and non-minor dependents of the foster care
system. In this way, they will be both prepared and confident when they enter a college classroom,
make a speech at a school function, and to interview for a job. Shabby clothes, old shoes and poor
hygiene are an embarrassment to may of these youth who can ill afford the most basic of necessities.
They can choose to eat, buy a book for class, or replace a worn-out pair of shoes. Why not help
them with all of it, so they may focus on the next step: healing, growth and an education?
(“Execute true justice, show mercy and compassion everyone to his brother. Do not oppress the
widow or the fatherless...” Zechariah 7: 9-10 NKJV)

We’re sorry, but we do NOT need donations of microwaves, televisions, computers, furniture, used clothing, printers or fax machines. However, many nonprofits that you may find on the web DO need these items. |
